Jochem Hendricks

Self Portrait - Eye Drawing

The above image is a digital art piece done by Jochem Hendrick. Jochem Hendrick was able to create this self portrait using nothing but his eyes. Jochem Hendrick has very little information about his life in terms of his family and things like that but he was born in a very small town in Germany called Schlüchtern. Jochem Hendricks studied in Frankfurt, Germany at a contemporary fine arts academy called Städelschule. For a brief period during his studies from 1980-1987 he studied in New York City.

When I first began reading about this artist and the kind of work he did, I was completely taken back because he had the ground breaking idea of taking the most free and creative thing on the human body and use that as a tool for digital media art creation. In my opinion, this opens up a complete new realm of creativity to how an artist can express themselves. The artist also creates a great opportunity for them to create experimental art exhibits to figure out what people look at/for in any given art piece.

Above is a picture of the device he uses to create his eye drawings. This device he uses  has two infra-red sensors that are linked to two video cameras that follow the reflexes of his eyes. Through this process he is able to digitize what his eyes are looking at allowing him to create his pieces of art. When his eye's rest at a given point for a certain period of time an unbroken line is drawn from point to point.

I believe that the only way his artwork can get better is with more time spent into creating significant pieces of art. Most of the things I have seen him do is just him creating what seems like quick sketches. However, I am sure these sketches are very time consuming. Another idea that he could do to have more fun with his art is set up engaging art exhibits to have people try on the device and see what they create or what they look at first of one of his pieces of art.

Greg Martin

Greg Martin
The above picture is a digital media art sample from one my favorite artist. Greg Martin is my favorite because I enjoy thinking about what different parts of the universe would look like from a more up close view. Through his art I am able to get a good idea of what different parts of space look like, and I believe that he is really the only digital artist I have seen who can truly show you how cool space is.

Some of the art he creates is done through taking multiple pictures of a given landscape and putting them together in Photoshop where he can enhance a certain part of the landscape that he likes. Below is a picture of this example.

In the above picture he uses a Canon SD800IS to take the pictures of this road.
